WEB DEVELOPER

The selection process will include a pre-employment background screening and education verification. Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Design, develop, and maintain GTS’s existing and future websites and associated sub-sites for optimum functionality, interactivity, and appearance. Applicant should have knowledge of visual, navigational, and structural approaches to website design and development. Applicant is required to have a strong background with HTML, CSS, XML, PHP, and Javascript. Further, applicant should have a background with industry-standard web authoring and imaging applications including but not limited to Adobe CS, Flash, and Dreamweaver.
  2. Applicant must possess good communication and documentation skills, be willing to work in a diverse and heterogeneous IT environment, be able to dynamically prioritize workloads in order to accommodate project timelines, and be able to translate high-level website requirements received from communication officers, faculty, staff, and students into functional websites.
  3. Applicant should possess an understanding of the content-management system paradigm, should be experienced with creating web-forms and associated form-input data processing, should be familiar with all common web browsers to ensure that the site’s web pages display correctly across different browsing environments, should be able to create and analyze web site activity reports and use these reports for site optimization, and should be knowledgeable with web trends as to keep the GTS website conformable to latest trends.
  4. Applicant should be able to utilize tools to ensure GTS website visibility across the Internet using search engine optimization techniques, be able to implement internal web search engines, be able to integrate GTS web content into the social networking paradigm (i.e. Facebook visibility, YouTube visibility, WikiPedia, etc), and be able to implement/integrate modern Web 2.0 technologies such as RSS, blogs, and wikis.
  5. Applicant must be willing to learn new IT skill sets such as advanced system administration and end-user computer support.

 Required Skills: HTML, PHP, CSS, XML, Javascript, Apache Web Server configuration 

Other Desired Skills, but not required: Tier-1 Linux/Windows system administration, IIS Web Server configuration, ColdFusion, AJAX, Perl, Unix/Linux shell scripting, MS SQL, MYSQL, Knowledge of DNS, Knowledge of hosting virtual websites. 

Education Requirements: Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a closely related field preferred.

 Experience: At least 4 years of web development experience required.

LABORATORY MANAGER I

Major responsibilities include:

Collect, understand, retain, practice, and train others on the technical information and tasks needed for the safe and efficient operation of the undergraduate and graduate instructional and research laboratories and equipment at GTS.

Be the repository of information on the operation and maintenance of simple and complex research equipment and instrumentation to ensure effective transition between graduate students who may only use the equipment periodically.

Coordinate preparation of lab facilities and equipment for instructional laboratory classes, including scheduling usage of instructional and shared research laboratory spaces.

Develop and coordinate procedures for safe operation of labs and associated instruments, including requesting safety supplies as needed, and training lab instructors and lab users on safety procedures.

Maintain inventories of lab equipment and supplies, including chemical inventory control.

Be responsible for receiving and installing instructional lab equipment, and for assisting faculty with research lab equipment specification, acquisition, installation and support. Be responsible for tracking periodic required calibrations of instructional and research measurement equipment.

Be able to trouble-shoot lab related hardware and software issues in MS Windows environment. Coordinate with the IT group on specifying, obtaining, and configuring software to be deployed and maintained in academic lab computers. Coordinate with academic units in Atlanta Campus to ensure Savannah labs are utilizing same equipment and are on the same hardware/software refresh cycle.

Coordinate lab cleaning in spaces not under routine maintenance by custodial contractors.

Education: A Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Experience: Four or more years of job related experience. A solid/working knowledge is necessary in space utilization, warehousing, conflict resolution, equipment maintenance, installation of equipment, stock handling and storage, hazmat, mathematics, preparing prints, drawings, schematics, quality assurance/control, quality management, quantitative methods, technical writing, student relations, environmental/safety compliance, cataloging, data analysis, evaluation of technology, event planning, filing/shelving, instrumentation, inventory management, equipment repair, materials/components identification and selection, materials science, organization and management development, PC applications, PC operation, procedural design/improvement, purchasing, and scientific or technical word processing. This job requires interpersonal communications such as advising, recommending, or counseling, directing or delegating, exchanging information, and troubleshooting; group communications such as participating in meetings and conducting meetings; and preparing written communications such as specifications/work orders. This job requires operating or maintaining standard office equipment, specialized/technical equipment, electrical/electronic instrumentation, servo-hydraulic test systems, machine tools, motor vehicles, hand/power tools, and light equipment. This job requires computer knowledge.

This job has direct responsibility for promoting an atmosphere of acceptance and respect among laboratory users. This job plans and establishes priorities for assigned area of responsibility.

The work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions. This position may be exposed to hazardous materials, fumes, hot surfaces, high pressure liquids or gases, and radiation/radioactive materials.
