- Distributed, collaborative design and manufacturing
Dr. Panchal’s research interests are in the field of Engineering Systems Design. Specifically, his current research focus is on simulation-based distributed design methodologies and technologies for multiscale systems. From a design methodology side, he is interested in addressing research issues related to design process configuration, development of efficient design exploration techniques, management and mitigation of uncertainty, and design considering model evolution and changing environment. From an Information Technology perspective, he is interested in issues such as synchronization of information generated by models at different scales, long run times, computational load balancing, information models for capturing information at various levels of abstraction in a consistent format, integration of distributed computational models and hardware resources, and the creation of a software framework that allows distributed design of multiscale systems.
