Scientific Diving Applications

Feature Image

The University System of Georgia is a member of the American Academy of Underwater Scientists. Dr. Work frequently collaborates with the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography and others on projects that involve scientific diving. Skidaway’s R/V Savannah serves as an optimal vessel for many projects because of its range, size, comfort, and safety. It features an onboard nitrox blending system for missions requiring significant amounts of breathing gas before returning to dock.

A variety of tools are used to support the missions that include diving. These include pingers and acoustic releases to relocate equipment, full-face masks with onboard wireless communications, drysuits, underwater scooters, and other assets.
